April 27, 1957 – January 9, 2026
Gregory Wayne “Greg” Rash, 68, passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2026, in Seattle, Washington. Born on April 27, 1957, in Goshen, Indiana, Greg often spoke fondly of growing up in Orange County, California, a place that helped shape his adventurous and outgoing spirit. Proud of his Italian heritage, he carried a strong sense of family and tradition throughout his life. For the past 32 years, he has lived and worked in Sequim, Washington, the community he chose as home and where he built a life of purpose, service, and connection.
Greg’s life was marked by generosity, curiosity, and an unwavering love for people and his craft. He began working as a locksmith apprentice at just 11 years old, discovering a passion that would guide his entire career. His remarkable skill and dedication took him around the world, including several years living and working in Sydney, Australia. He also spent time in Brazil, learning Portuguese and immersing himself in the culture.
Over decades in the trade, Greg earned multiple high-security certifications, became safe-certified, and performed work for the military. Known far and wide as a master of his craft, other locksmiths regularly sought his advice. He had a particular passion for antique and historic locks, delighting in their mechanisms and the stories behind them.
In November 1995, Greg co-founded The Master Locksmith in Sequim, Washington. For more than 30 years the shop stood as a trusted fixture of the community. The doors closed on January 15, 2026, marking the end of a remarkable chapter built on integrity, expertise, and his heartfelt desire to help others.
Greg graduated from Fountain Valley High School and devoted his working life to locksmithing, but his interests and talents reached far beyond his trade. In his early years he was a falconer and often hunted on the islands with his red-tailed hawk, Scarlet. He was also a licensed amateur radio operator, known on the airwaves by the call sign N7GMY, connecting with people near and far. In the late 1990s, Greg served as a foster parent, opening his home to children in need and offering them stability and care.
A true people person, Greg could talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time, always with a smile and a laugh. He loved his family and friends deeply and was known for going out of his way to help whenever someone needed a hand.
He found joy in old jukeboxes and 45-rpm records, cherished his Dodge Charger and all things Mopar, attended car shows, and was an avid roller skater. His passion for life was infectious, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for locksmithing inspired all who knew him.
Greg is survived by his son, Steven Rash, and his two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Rash; his mother, Helen Quattrini Rash Meader; his sister, Kathleen Nelson; and his brother, Ronald Rash.
Greg will be remembered as a good man who freely gave his time, his knowledge, and his heart. His ability to make instant friends, his deep love for family and community, and his lifelong devotion to his craft leave a legacy that will endure.
Though his passing was unexpected, those who loved him find comfort in knowing his life was rich with purpose, friendship, and kindness. May he rest in peace, held in God’s eternal care, and may his memory continue to bring warmth and smiles to all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Details will be announced.
